In black ink, with additional markings in black, blue, and red pencil, on both sides of tall sheets of 36-staff paper (blind stamp of Lard-Esnault), paginated 1-85, 1-36, and 1-44 in the composer's hand. On title page, also in his hand: "The Promised Land. - 1st Part. / Prelude." At the top of p. 1, in pencil, not in Saint-Saëns's hand: "The Promised Land / Camille Saint-Saëns / op. 140." The manuscript lacks the two unaccompanied chorales. Pages 25-44 of part 3 have been repaginated.
Abstract:
The Promised Land, oratorio on a text by Hermann Klein, was premiered at the Three Choirs Festival, held at Gloucester Cathedral, in 1913.
