Abstract:
Allured was one of two cavalry officers who had distinguished themselves in the taking of Alyth in 1651. Monck was appointed Commander in Chief in Scotland on 8 April 1654, and Allured was given this commission to bring forces from Ireland to subdue the Islands on 24 April. Allured, later suspected of disaffection, was superceded by Col. William Brayne.
