|Type of Resource:|
The first of these pieces was inspired by the canonization of Seraphin of Montegranaro (Seraphin d'Ascoli) by Pope Clement XIII on August 17, 1767. In his imaginative discussion of sacred names of the past, the naming of saints, etc., Voltaire makes the humorous (to him) statement that Joan of Arc should be canonized.
